Tupac From Joe Sample

Tupac From Joe Sample

THIS FROM THAT  -  “Dear Mama” (Tupac)  from  “In All My Wildest Dreams” (Joe Sample) and  “Sadie” (Spinners)

Back in my radio DJ days, I placed Joe Sample’s instrumental, “In All My Wildest Dreams,” as a music bed under the voice-over reading of some bank commercial.  It’s one of two songs I ever got Request Line calls for to, “play that music in that commercial again.”  It has such pretty chords and Joe Sample, keyboardist for the renown Jazz Crusaders, really tickled the ivories in a gorgeous cut from his 1978 solo album, Rainbow Seeker.  “In All My Wildest Dreams,” serves as the music that drives Tupac’s wildly popular 1995 song, “Dear Mama.”  Aaaahhhh, but there’s a double catch to this one.  The chorus (hook) of “Dear Mama,” is rapped over the slickly-edited musical chorus of the Spinners hit classic ode to mamas, “Sadie.”  Is it just a coincidence that Tupac chose the seminal song dedication to mamas as the musical hook for his Rapper dedication to mamas?  As gifted as Tupac was, I’d guess it was an intentional stroke of superior artistry.

So, recapping, “In All My Wildest Dreams,” serves as the music sample for the verses and “Sadie” serves as the sampled hook for Tupc Shakur’s touching tribute, “Dear Mama.”
