One of the featured performances at the 2010 Trumpet Awards was a Tribute song to Fankie Beverly and Maze as sung by the legendary Clark Sisters, J. Moss and Kiki Sheard (Karen’s daughter).  This collaboration is one of the many great contributions on the album, “Silky Soul Music… An All-Star Tribute To Maze featuring Frankie Beverly.”  This incredibly produced CD is chocked full of outstanding performances by Musiq Soulchild, Ledisi, Kem, Raheem DeVaughn, Joe, Mary J. Blige, Mint Condition and more.  I love every single performance on this CD.  But for me the standout is, as it has been since I first heard it, “I Wanna Thank You,” by the Clark Sisters, J. Moss and Kiki Sheard.  The lyrics touch my soul and their sincere delivery oozes of reverence and thankfulness to God Almighty.  Frankie Beverly’s lyrics are always so beautifully penned, positive and inspirational that it’s not much of a stretch to transform his songs into Gospel.  The Clark, Moss, Sheard collaboration succeeded at this task effortlessly.  Even though they are from the same family, it still gets the goose bumps a’ poppin’ when you experience that much talent on any one song.  I can never play this song on the “Tribute” CD just once.  In fact, I rarely can get lower that 10 spins in a row before I can release this song and go on to another track.  Remember, I love everything on this CD… but this is my absolute favorite!

So, this month NO SKIP NO SCRATCHES highlights the Gospel stylings of the Clark Sisters, J. Moss and Kiki Sheard singing Maze’s classic, “I Wanna Thank You.”  Enjoy!
